Week of December 2

Hello,

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving break. As a reminder with the weather beginning to change please make sure your child is dressed properly to go outside for recess. Students need snow pants and boots to go on the playground equipment area when we have snow on the ground. Students are expected to go outside each day for recess. If there is reason your child cannot go out I must receive a doctors note to keep them in from recess.

In math this week students will be starting our new unit on area. This will take us through the rest of the grading period. When we return from winter break we will then have our perimeter unit in math. In social studies we will continue to learn about local history of Auburn and Bainbridge. During science we will start our unit on the roles of living things. Students will learn how animals adapt to meet their needs. This unit will end with an animal project after we come back from winter break. In ELA students our continuing to learn about historical fiction. As a class we have been reading aloud the book Because of Winn Dixie to learn how to think deeper about the characters in the books we read. Students our continuing to learn about character traits along with affixes in class as well. This week each reading group will have finished their current story and I will be placing students into new reading groups. A reading log and list of spelling words will go home on Monday. The reading log will be due next Monday and their spelling test will be on Friday the thirteenth. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Mr. Aurand
