Week of August 19

I hope everyone had a nice first weekend of the school year. It was great getting to meet and know our new class during the first week of school. I look forward to continuing learn more about all of my students as the school year progresses. Last Friday students took home their Friday folders and in there was a paper to sign up for Class Dojo. This is an app that I use to better communicate with parents. I will be talking more about it during parent open house. Starting this week students will be taking home a reading log each night. Students should try and read 20-30 minutes each night and then parents will need to initial on the reading logs that your child read. Next Monday students will turn the logs back in and then receive a new one. Starting today students will be receiving math homework Monday through Thursday. The homework should normally take no more than five minutes to complete. Students will be writing in their agenda planners each night. Please initial that you have checked what work needs to be completed in their planners

This week we will begin many of our class subjects. To start the year in math students will be learning about place value. In science students will learn about animal life cycles and in social studies they will learn about their local community. For ELA our first reading genre of the school year is folktales.
